Summary
Whilst attending a lecture in Culpepper, Virginia by Dr Cassandra Hawkins, Jessica learns that one of Cassandra's ancestors was a slave accused of murdering a white plantation owner on his wedding night, and the slave was owned by a woman named Sarah McCullough, an ancestor of Jessica. Cassandra is not convinced of her ancestor's guilt, and Jessica, after revealing her connection to Sarah McCullough, agrees to help Cassandra attempt to crack the mystery. During their investigation, the film goes back to the time of the murder several times, and shows that Sarah was a pretty good detective herself.
